Vulgate

VULGATE (from Lat. vulgus, the common people), a Latin version of the Bible prepared in the 4th century by St Jerome, and so called from its common use in the Roman Catholic Church (see BIBLE: Texts and Versions). Pius X. in 1008 entrusted to the Benedictine Order the task of revising the text, beginning with the Old Testament.
