Viola

VIOLA [Fr. viole, Ger. Bratsche, Ital. viola, a/to], the tenor member of the violin family. The construction of the viola is the same, but on a larger scale, as that of the violin (q.v.). The instrument is pitched a perfect fifth below the violin.
