THRENODY, a lament written in verse, a dirge, a funeral ode composed in honour of a dead personage. The word is an adaptation of the Greek Op^wSia, a funeral dirge, from 6pi)vos, lamentation, wailing, 0/xo/ucu, I cry aloud, and &5rj, a song, ode, Qotiv, to sing.
