Meganucleus

MEGANUCLEUS (also called MACRONUCLETJS), in Infusoria (q.ii.)., the large nucleus which undergoes direct (amitotic) division in fission, and is lost during conjugation, to be replaced by a nucleus, the result of the karyogamy of the micronuclei.
